Our Mission Statement
"The Robert James Graves Foundation’s mission is to disseminate timely and useful information, to perform charitable services, and to raise funds to help conduct research to enhance productivity and quality of life for people suffering from Graves Disease."
The charity was originally the brainchild of Dr. James Neil Shea, from Rutherglen. Father of the Chairman, Sherwood Shea, who is a Graves' sufferer himself. Dr. Shea's reason was his involvement, as Chairman of the British Boxing Board of Control and of his linking of head trauma to Boxers, which can cause Graves. The neurological similarities in the symptomology of "punchy" boxers, which is at times misdiagnosed as Parkinsons.
Founded in 2015 as a fully incorporated non profit Charity. Set up in order to help Graves' sufferers and their families, who for one reason or another could use a helping hand (financially and emotionally). To them, a donation is much more than of monetary value - it is unyielding, faithful support in an otherwise trying time.
Our Values are…
To be open, honest, ethical and accountable and to work productively with others in the pursuit of quality treatment for patients
To value people as individuals and put the interests of people with Graves disease first
To respect the right of individuals to be involved in and knowledgeable about their illness and treatment options
To value the need for open and free access to independent and accurate information both at the time of diagnosis and thereafter
To encourage people to take control of their own health and wellbeing
To promote public awareness in regard to Graves disease
To raise funds for scientific research for the education, alleviation, care, treatment and cure of Graves disease
We want to make a difference by helping people become more aware of Graves disease and also by raising funds for the much needed research. We can only achieve this because of our very dedicated support group of family and friends. We always welcome new additions to this "family," so if you are interested, please contact us!
